Armenian ruling party confirms independent run in 2026 elections
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s ruling Civil Contract party has confirmed it will participate in the upcoming 2026 parliamentary elections without forming an alliance with other political forces, Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said at a briefing.
"I am convinced that we will go to the elections alone, we will not form a coalition, and we will receive the support of an absolute majority," Simonyan stated, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
Despite a rise in the political standing of the main opposition leader, second president Robert Kocharian, Simonyan emphasised that the ruling party was unfazed. He argued that the Armenian people were well aware of Kocharian's ambitions to align Armenia with the Russia-Belarus union.
"The people of Armenia know that Kocharian seeks power to join our country with the union of Russia and Belarus," Simonyan added.
The next parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 2026. However, recent opinion polls indicate a sharp decline in public support for both Pashinyan and his party. According to survey data from Gallup International, 60 per cent of Armenians express dissatisfaction with the current administration's policies.
