Moscow signals sympathy toward Armenian opposition
27 May 2026 21:51
Moscow has made clear it views certain Armenian opposition forces favourably amid ongoing political tensions between the two countries.
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov reiterated that Armenia remains a “brotherly country” for Russia, despite Yerevan’s increasingly pro-European orientation.
“Armenia is our brotherly country — it was, is, and will remain so,” Peskov said, speaking in an interview with the Vesti news agency.
He also noted that there are political forces in Armenia that do not share the approach of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government toward Russia, adding: “We are sympathetic to these forces; we do not hide it.”
