Moscow–Tehran flight diverted after Iran closes airspace
15 January 2026 11:16
Aeroflot’s Moscow–Tehran flight was forced to return to Sheremetyevo Airport after Iran closed its airspace.
The airline’s press service told Russian media that a new departure is scheduled for 11:00 (Moscow time).
Aeroflot also stated that passengers were provided with hotel accommodation during the delay, along with drinks and meals.
Iran has been experiencing nationwide protests since late December, sparked by the collapse of the national currency and a sharp surge in prices. Demonstrators are calling for a change in the political system. More than 2,000 people have been killed and over 10,000 detained. On January 15, Iran shut down its airspace.
