Mother faces charges after son’s deadly school attack in Türkiye
Turkish authorities have arrested the mother of a teenager who carried out an armed attack on a school in Kahramanmaraş, an incident that left nine people dead.
Türkiye’s Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said the woman is being charged with involuntary manslaughter, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Investigators say she failed to take into account her son’s psychological condition and did not fulfil her parental responsibilities.
The teenager’s father, a former security services officer, was detained earlier on April 16.
Before the attack, a school psychologist had warned the parents about the boy’s mental health issues.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack is ongoing.
On April 15, 14-year-old İsa Aras Mersinli carried out an armed attack at Ayser Çalık Middle School using five firearms and seven magazines belonging to his father, killing 10 people, including one teacher.
Police have also detained the boy’s father, Uğur Mersinli, in connection with the case.
