MP: Trilateral meeting in Brussels - shameful fiasco for Armenia
Member of “Armenia” opposition bloc Arthur Khachatryan has said that the trilateral meeting in Brussels was a shameful fiasco for the Armenian current government.
“The trilateral meeting in Brussels was a shameful fiasco for the Armenian current government and demonstrated the EU’s intentions regarding Armenia,” Khachatryan said at the parliamentary briefings on April 15, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
He noted that the political statements made at the end of the meeting were an important aspect.
“Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia is ready to intensify relations proceeding from the EU’s readiness. Europe stressed that Armenia may hope only for Single Euro Payments Area [SEPA] now and then we will see. That is, in response to all the statements made by the Armenian authorities about intensification and expansion of relations, the EU described the red line for Armenia,” Khachatryan said.
The MP also touched upon the European side’s financial assistance to Armenia.
“Officials of such a high level do not gather just to discuss the provision of about 70 million euros [$74 million] per year to Armenia. However, just a couple of years ago a promise was made to allocate 2.6 billion euros [$2.8 million]. That is, 10 times less was proposed,” he added.
