NATO delegation visits key military institutions in Azerbaijan to strengthen defence ties PHOTO

A NATO delegation, led by Rear Admiral Gunnstein Bruåsdal, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Partnerships Directorate at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), visited several military institutions in Azerbaijan as part of the "15th NATO Days".

The delegation’s first stop was the Military Institute named after Heydar Aliyev, where they were briefed on the institute's activities, education programmes, and its international cooperation efforts, Caliber.Az reports via Defence Ministry.

Following this, the NATO group visited the War Games Centre at the Military Administration Institute of the National Defence University. There, they observed a training course run by the Mobile Training Team from NATO's Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, part of the Individual Partnership Cooperation Programme for 2024.

The delegation then proceeded to a military unit of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, where they were given a detailed briefing on the unit’s history and operational activities.

Discussions during the visit centred on the growing cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO, ongoing reforms in the Azerbaijani Army, and various areas of mutual interest.

The NATO delegation also observed combat training sessions of the Maritime Interdiction Operations Boarding Party, which is part of the NATO Operational Capabilities Concept Programme.

In a statement at the end of the visit, Rear Admiral Bruåsdal said, "This visit highlights the continuous and successful development of the relationship between Azerbaijan and NATO, and we are pleased to witness first-hand the impressive strides made in enhancing defence capabilities."
