NATO fighter jets to operate low over Estonia in week-long drills
NATO will conduct training flights over Estonia from April 20 to April 26. The exercises will take place daily between 10:00 and 22:00 across the country’s airspace, with a particular focus on low-altitude flights down to 152 metres, ERR reports.
Military officials warned that, although efforts will be made to avoid populated areas, it will not be possible to completely rule out flights over residential zones.
Supersonic flights are also scheduled during the drills. The Estonian Air Force said these may generate a shock wave and a loud sonic effect resembling an explosion or artillery fire.
Allied fighter jets are based at Ämari Air Base in Estonia and at Šiauliai Air Base in Lithuania. The exercises are being carried out to maintain combat readiness and ensure rapid response capabilities in the Baltic region amid potential security threats.
