NATO to hold foreign ministers’ meeting in Sweden in May
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has approved holding the Alliance’s next foreign ministers’ meeting in Sweden, a correspondent of European Pravda reported from NATO headquarters.
The meeting is scheduled for May 21–22, 2026, in the coastal city of Helsingborg.
Rutte underlined that Sweden is a valued member of the Alliance and makes an important contribution to Euro-Atlantic security. The meeting will be the first of its kind hosted by Sweden since it joined NATO in March 2024.
According to the Secretary General, the gathering will mark an important stage in the Alliance’s work, with ministers expected to discuss increasing defence spending, boosting military production, and continuing support for Ukraine.
"Ministers will address how we can continue to make good progress in these crucial areas," he said.
Rutte added that the outcomes of the Helsingborg talks are expected to help shape the agenda for the next NATO summit, which is set to take place in Ankara in July.
