Netanyahu, Trump hold phone talk as Israel considers military response to Iran violation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump are engaged in a phone conversation following Trump’s expression of anger toward Israel.
The US president was upset about Israel’s preparations to launch a strike against Iran in retaliation for Iran’s breach of the fragile truce recently established between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
Reports indicate that Israel is inclined to proceed with the attack. Israeli officials have indicated that the strike would likely be "symbolic" in nature.
The ceasefire, announced on June 24, brought an end to a 12-day conflict that began on 13 June, when Israel launched a series of preemptive airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities at locations including Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow.
President Trump played a central role in initiating the ceasefire by reaching out directly to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Trump informed the Emir that Israel had agreed to a ceasefire proposal.
Qatar’s role as a key mediator stemmed from its established diplomatic relations with both Iran and the United States, along with its history of facilitating regional negotiations, such as those between Israel and Hamas.
Following Trump’s request for assistance in convincing Iran to accept the ceasefire, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, held direct talks with Iranian officials, successfully securing Tehran’s commitment to the agreed terms.
