NetBlocks: Internet blackout in Iran enters 48th day
16 April 2026 12:26
The internet shutdown in Iran has continued into its 48th day, according to monitoring group NetBlocks, which says the disruption remains one of the most extensive censorship measures recorded in a connected society.
In a statement, NetBlocks said the blackout has now lasted 1,128 hours and has had an estimated economic impact of around $1.8 billion, based on its COST methodology, in addition to broader human rights implications.
“Metrics show the internet blackout in #Iran is ongoing into its 48th day after 1128 hours,” the organization said, adding that the scale and severity of the disruption are “unsurpassed in a connected society.”
