Netflix confirms service shutdown in Russia
The Netflix streaming service has confirmed the shutdown of the platform in Russia.
The representative of the service called such a measure "the implementation of the exit from the Russian market", announced in early March, TASS quotes him as saying referring to AFP agency.
He added that the company was waiting for the end of the payment cycle - until the validity of all prepaid subscriptions previously issued in the Russian Federation expired - for the final blocking of the service in Russia.
Netflix became unavailable to Russian users on May 27 without connecting to VPN services: applications for smartphones, TVs and computers do not work, and the web version is unavailable.
Roskomnadzor (The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) on the same day stated that no restrictive measures were taken against the video platform by the department.
On March 6, Netflix announced that it was suspending its work in Russia in connection with the events around Ukraine.
Earlier, the company's management also announced that Netflix would not broadcast 20 Russian federal channels of the first and second multiplex, despite the requirement of Russian law.
