Iran confirms Russian leader's visit to Tehran remains on agenda, date pending

09 June 2025 16:34

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Tehran remains a standing item on the diplomatic agenda, though a precise date has yet to be finalized.

Speaking at a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei addressed speculation surrounding the anticipated visit, stating that discussions between Iranian and Russian officials are ongoing and routine. The issue, he stressed, is not a new development, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.

“This is not a new topic. There are regular consultations between Iranian and Russian officials. The previously circulated incomplete information about the visit was later clarified by our embassy in Moscow,” Baghaei noted, referencing recent reports that had sparked confusion about the timing and purpose of the visit.

He confirmed that President Putin had received an official invitation from Iran and underscored that preparations are proceeding under standard diplomatic procedures.

“Determining the exact date and agenda of the visit is a normal process of agreement between the parties,” Baghaei said, implying that no delays or complications should be inferred from the current lack of a formal announcement.

The spokesman declined to comment on a journalist’s question regarding whether President Putin might serve as a mediator in the ongoing indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
