Champions League: Qarabağ snatches last-minute win over Eintracht Frankfurt
Azerbaijan’s Qarabağ secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt in the seventh round of the UEFA Champions League group stage.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time, when Bahlul Mustafazade scored in the 90+4th minute to hand the Azerbaijani club a thrilling win at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.
Qarabağ had opened the scoring early through Camilo Duran, but Eintracht quickly equalised via Can Uzun. A controversial penalty awarded to the German side in the 77th minute allowed Farès Chaïbi to level the score again. Camilo Durán then struck once more in the 80th minute, restoring parity before Mustafazade’s last-gasp goal sealed the victory.
With the win, Qarabağ now has 10 points, climbing to 17th place in the overall standings. In a parallel match, Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid played out a 1-1 draw.
Qarabağ’s squad included Mateusz Kochalski, Bahlul Mustafazade, Kevin Medina, Mateus Silva, Elvin Jafarguliyev, Pedro Bicalho, Marco Jankovic, Joni Montiel, Leandro Andrade, Abdellah Zoubir, and Camilo Duran. Eintracht lined up with Kaua Santos, Nnamdi Collins, Robin Koch, Rasmus Kristensen, Arthur Theate, Ellyes Skhiri, Ansgar Knauff, Hugo Larsson, Ritsu Doan, Nathaniel Brown, and Can Uzun.
