Kazakhstan to host 14th plenary session of TurkPA in Astana
The 14th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TurkPA) will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, on June 11–12, under the theme “The Turkic Century: The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy.”
The event will be chaired by Kazakhstan’s national parliament, Caliber.Az reports citing Kazakh media.
Parliamentary delegations from member and observer states are expected to attend, alongside representatives from international organisations, Turkic cooperation bodies, and other partner institutions.
The programme will also include meetings of the Assembly Council, the Women Parliamentarians Group, and the Young Parliamentarians Group.
In addition, a separate session will be held for the secretaries-general of the parliaments of TurkPA member states.
To recall, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) was founded via the Istanbul Agreement on November 21, 2008, in Istanbul, signed by the Heads of Parliament of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye.
Its first plenary session convened on September 29, 2009, in Baku, where delegates approved the Rules of Procedure, Secretariat Regulations, and the Baku Declaration, and decided to permanently locate the Secretariat in Baku.
TURKPA promotes parliamentary diplomacy by nurturing political dialogue, legislative harmonisation, and deeper inter‑parliamentary cooperation based on shared linguistic, cultural, and historical bonds. The Assembly also organises expert workshops, international conferences, forums, and election observation missions in its member countries.
Governance is overseen by a Council of Assembly, comprising the parliamentary heads, along with four specialised commissions—covering legal and international affairs, economic cooperation, social, cultural and humanitarian matters, and environment, natural resources and health.
TURKPA pledges to uphold principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, legal equality, non‑interference, and mutual respect among its members.
