New ombudsman appointment under dicsussions in Armenia

The Armenian parliament is discussing the issue of electing an ombudsman.

The only candidate is Anahit Manasyan, nominated by the ruling “Civil Contract” party, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

The Armenian Parliament’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs has given its positive opinion to Anahit Manasyan's candidacy for the post of Armenia’s Ombudsman.

The ruling party MPs endorsed her candidacy. Manasyan currently holds the position of Deputy Prosecutor General.

Another candidate was from the pro-opposition "I have honour" and "Armenia" factions, the public figure Edgar Ghazaryan. However, the opposition MPs didn’t attend the session, so Ghazaryan was supported only by the head of the commission Taguhi Tovmasyan.
