New participants of October 4 protests taken into custody in Georgia

Several activists have been detained in Georgia in connection with the October 4 events, Georgian media reports, as cited by Caliber.Az.

Among those reportedly arrested are Mariam Mekantsishvili, Simon Makharadze, David Gurtskaya, and Giorgi Talakhadze.

While the Interior Ministry has not yet officially confirmed the detentions, Interpressnews reports that all were taken into custody at dawn, with Mekantsishvili reportedly transferred to a temporary detention centre.

The arrests are linked to the protests on October 4, 2025, when demonstrators attempted to storm the residence of the President of Georgia in Tbilisi during municipal election voting, an action described by participants as part of the “transfer of power to the people.”
