New Polish parliamentary group to deal with reparations arising after World War II

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk has announced the creation of a parliamentary group on reparations from Germany, Russia.

The group is set to deal with compensation and reparations from Germany for the destruction caused during the Second World War, as well as assess "the amount of compensation due to the Polish side from Russia", Mularczyk wrote on his X page, according to Caliber.Az.

"In accordance with the Sejm resolution of 14 September 2022, we established a parliamentary group on reparations, compensation and damages owed to Poland from Germany and the assessment of the amount of compensation owed to Poland from Russia for damage caused during World War II," Mularczyk wrote.

The deputy foreign minister also noted that this group included the president of the Law and Justice political party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

The Polish side demands about $1.5 trillion from Germany as compensation for the results of World War II. Warsaw's official refusal of reparations, signed in the 50s of the last century is considered invalid by the current authorities.

According to the Polish authorities, the document was allegedly pushed through by the Soviet Union, and besides, it concerns states that no longer exist - the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Polish People's Republic. At the same time, Germany has repeatedly noted that they are not going to pay anything to Warsaw.

In addition, after paying reparations from Germany, Poland may begin to seek payments from Russia, said by the head of the International Policy Bureau of the Office of the Polish President, Marcin Przydacz.
