New underground parking in Tehran doubles as shelter

A new multifunctional underground facility designed to serve both as a parking structure and an emergency shelter is set to open in Tehran, according to local officials, cited by Iran International.

The site, known as the Etamad parking facility and located in District 10 of the city, will operate as a standard parking garage under normal conditions but can be converted into a shelter capable of accommodating thousands of people in the event of an emergency.

The facility spans approximately 2,600 square meters and is built across four underground levels. It is designed to accommodate up to 275 vehicles when functioning as a parking structure.
