Newspaper: Armenian mid-level officers questioned in pressure campaign

22 May 2026 11:53

Mid-level military personnel in Armenia are being summoned for questioning as part of efforts to obtain testimony against senior officers, particularly those associated with the General Staff, according to a report by Hraparak newspaper citing an unnamed source.

The report indicates that the questioning campaign is directed at officers of intermediate rank and is intended to gather statements that could be used in cases involving high-ranking members of the military establishment.

According to the publication, these measures are described as preventive and are “aimed at creating pressure on the military to prevent their possible cooperation with the opposition.”

The report also references developments involving former Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan.

“By the way, it is said that former Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan, who has recently shown signs of activity, has gone underground precisely for this reason: he was also made to understand that he should keep quiet, otherwise ‘it will be bad,’” the newspaper notes.
