NGO: Armenian authorities persecuting dissenting journalists
Seven Armenian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that supported Editor-in-chief of the Hayeli (Mirror) Press Club Angela Tovmasyan have said that opposition media and journalists are persecuted in Armenia.
Tovmasyan, notorious for her oppositional views and numerous supporters, has been persecuted this time, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.
“While fulfilling the order of the authorities that is detrimental to the nation, the Armenian National Security Service is likely to persecute another dissident journalist,” the message said.
“We firmly condemn any actions aimed at suppressing freedom of speech. The right to freedom of speech enshrined in the Constitution is always violated in our country. A real dictatorship is established. Intolerance for dissent reigns. There are a lot of political prisoners in prisons,” the message said.
