Northern Cyprus declares three-day mourning after shipwreck

Northern Cyprus has declared three days of national mourning following the sinking of a passenger vessel travelling from Girne to Taşucu off the coast of Girne, which left 8 people dead and 18 missing.
Before the incident, the vessel was reportedly carrying 267 passengers, 237 of whom were rescued, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Two Azerbaijani citizens were among those rescued.
Earlier, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said the vessel’s captain and seven crew members had been detained as part of an investigation into the shipwreck off the coast of Girne.
