Norway warns it could follow Finland's example of closing border with Russia

The Norwegian minister of Justice and Public Security has warned that authorities may have to close the only checkpoint on the border with the Russian Federation in relation to a heightened migrant influx.

As reported by Gazeta.Ru, referring to the NRK television channel, Minister Emilie Enger Mehl stated, that Norway was "closely watching the situation, and perhaps it would be advisable for us to close the border as soon as possible, if necessary", commenting on neighbour Finland's closure of its border with Russia amid an unusually high influx of irregular migrants.

Finland has previously accused Russia of helping migrants to reach the border while knowing that they do not possess the paperwork to cross into Finland. 

However according to the minister, at present Norwegian border guards do not face any abnormal traffic at the Storskog border crossing point.
