Number of Georgian asylum seekers in EU drops 65% — minister
10 December 2025 17:35
The number of asylum seekers from Georgia in EU countries has declined by 65% since 2022, Georgian Justice Minister Paata Salia said, referring to Eurostat data.
He cited concrete Eurostat figures: "In 2022, 28,000 Georgian citizens applied for asylum across various EU states; today, this figure has already decreased by 65 per cent,” he stated.
“According to data from the EU Agency for Asylum for June 2025, 17 EU member states consider Georgia a safe country,” Salia added at a ministerial meeting of the Council of Europe on migration policy in Strasbourg, Caliber.Az reports.
“This means that Georgia is regarded as a country where there are no significant human rights violations or inhumane or improper treatment,” Salia added.
