Official: Armenian substations face crisis after decades of neglect
Sarik Minasyan, head of the Armenian Civil Contract party faction in the Gyumri City Council, shared a video on social media highlighting the poor condition of a substation owned by Armenian Electric Networks, formerly under Russian oligarch Samvel Karapetyan.
Minasyan stated on Facebook that an inexcusable situation had developed at the Akhurian network substations due to decades of irresponsibility and lack of investment, Caliber.Az reports.
He added that, under his directive, work was underway to address the identified defects and that those responsible would face severe disciplinary action.
Pro-government Armenian media reported that such conditions affected electric networks across the country, even as Karapetyan sold electricity to Armenian citizens at some of the highest prices not only in the region but across the entire Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
