Official: Georgia positioned as vital corridor for eight landlocked countries
Georgia plays a vital role as a regional transport and connectivity hub, hosting discussions with a U.S. State Department delegation on how the country can support international trade initiatives, including the so-called “Trump Route", Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Government Administration of Georgia, stated.
According to Georgian media, cited by Caliber.Az, he noted that the meetings focused on both Georgia’s ongoing connectivity investments and the U.S.-led “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), an initiative resulting from the peace summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan mediated by the United States.
“We spoke about the so-called Trump Corridor, which is, of course, located in our region. This corridor does not pass through Georgia; however, we noted that if a corridor is created in the region where the Americans ensure the safe transportation of goods, it will impact the entire region. We also reviewed the investments the Georgian authorities have made in terms of connectivity,” Zhorzholiani said.
The official emphasised Georgia’s strategic importance as a transit hub: “Georgia is a corridor for eight landlocked countries, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, which makes Georgia’s role extremely important given its geographic position.”
He further highlighted the regional economic benefits of this role: “And if their economies grow, as is usually the case in economics, this will automatically affect their neighbours as well, since we have very good relations with all three of our southern neighbours.”
