Official: Karabakh University to have specialties related to tourism
Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Agency for Tourism Fuad Nagiyev has said that Karabakh University will have specialties related to tourism.
"Currently there are 3 tourism educational institutions under the State Tourism Agency," Nagiyev said at the first meeting of specialized tourism-related educational institutions of the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization, APA reports.
"Among them are universities, colleges and vocational schools of tourism. In general, education in tourism speciality is provided in 17 higher educational institutions of our country," he emphasized.
Addressing the event, Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Khusrav Noziri emphasized that the city of Shusha has been declared a tourist capital in 2026.
“We believe that in the near future Shusha will become one of the most famous and visited places in Azerbaijan,” he added.
Noziri noted that until this moment the organization had chosen only 6 cities in the region as tourist capitals: “These are the cities of Dushanbe in Tajikistan, Sari and Ardabil in Iran, Shakhrisabz in Uzbekistan, Erzurum in Türkiye and Shusha in Azerbaijan.”
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order "On the establishment of Karabakh University".
According to the document, a legal entity of public law "Karabakh University" under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be established on the basis of a higher educational institution located in the city of Khankendi.
