Azerbaijan’s Khankandi hosts youth simulation conference on global climate challenges PHOTO
Khankandi is playing host to a youth-led simulation of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), bringing global climate discourse to the heart of Azerbaijan.
The event, which kicked off on April 26, is jointly organised by the Youth Organisation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Eurasian Regional Center of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The two-day conference is designed as an interactive model of the COP negotiations, offering students the opportunity to take on the roles of country delegates, representatives of international organisations, and media professionals. This initiative aims to deepen youth understanding of the complex international processes surrounding climate negotiations and sustainability efforts.
Participants will engage in debates and negotiations simulating the dynamics of actual COP sessions, with the goal of not only raising awareness about the urgent issues to be addressed at COP29, but also empowering young people to become advocates for climate action in their respective communities.
The program also places a strong emphasis on skills development, particularly in diplomacy, public speaking, and cross-cultural communication, reflecting a broader effort to nurture the next generation of global environmental leaders.
