Official: No current talks on extending EU monitoring mission in Armenia
There are currently no discussions underway regarding an extension of the mandate of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA), according to its head, Markus Ritter.
Speaking to reporters as he concludes his assignment in Armenia, Ritter said that while Armenian authorities would like the mission to continue its work until a peace treaty with Azerbaijan is signed and ratified, no formal talks have taken place about extending the current mandate, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
He added that the European Union plans to hold consultations with the Armenian government in the autumn to consider future steps, but that the specific issue of mandate extension has not yet been raised.
The current mandate of EUMA is set to expire in February 2027.
