Official: Ukraine yet to compensate Iran over ship strike
19 August 2026 10:06
Ukraine has not yet paid compensation to Iran over a July attack on an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said.
The two sides are continuing discussions over compensation for those affected by the incident, Jalali told Russia’s state-run RIA Novosti.
“At this stage, Iran is seeking compensation from the Ukrainian government and payment of compensation to those affected by the incident,” the ambassador said.
Jalali described the strike as a “terrorist attack” and called it a “deliberate attack on a civilian vessel.”
The incident occurred on July 25, when Ukraine struck an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea. One crew member was killed in the attack.
