Official: Warrior memorial draws 2,000 Kyrgyz participants in Türkiye’s İznik

20 May 2026 16:35

The "Kyrgyz Mausoleum of Warriors" (Kyrgyz Tomb) in the Turkish city of İznik has been highlighted as a symbol of long-standing ties between Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye, according to a senior Kyrgyz presidential official.

Daiyrbek Orunbekov, head of the information policy service of the Kyrgyz presidential administration, said that the roots of “brotherly and friendly relations” between the two nations stretch back centuries, with historical accounts suggesting mutual support during periods of hardship, Caliber.Az reports per Kyrgyz media.

The mausoleum in İznik, a town in north-western Türkiye, is presented in Kyrgyz narratives as a historic site connected to Kyrgyz warriors.

A commemorative ceremony was held at the memorial in recent days, dedicated to the memory of Kyrgyz fighters. The event aimed to preserve historical remembrance while also reinforcing cultural and historical ties among Turkic peoples, as well as unity among Kyrgyz citizens living abroad.

Around 2,000 Kyrgyz nationals from various regions of Türkiye attended the ceremony. This year’s event was organised by the Consulate General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul.
