OIC official highlights halal industry's role in boosting CIS economic growth
The halal business market creates great opportunities for economic development in the CIS region.
Director General of the Labour Centre of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Azer Bayramov made the remarks at the Halal Business and Tourism Forum (AZHAB Forum) in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He noted that the halal industry covers not only food production but also sectors such as tourism, finance, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals: "Such a comprehensive approach opens up opportunities for innovation and economic growth in the CIS."
Bayramov also added that the halal economy also requires a skilled labour force to support its development.
Muslims around the world observe dietary laws which come from Islamic teachings. Islamic dietary laws define foods that are halal, meaning lawful or permitted. Muslims avoid food and beverages that are Haram, meaning not permitted.
