Ombudswoman: Armenia’s disabled citizens continue to face many problems
Armenian Ombudswoman Anahit Manasyan has said that persons with disabilities continue to face many obstacles and problems in realizing their rights in Armenia.
She made the remarks in a message on the occasion of December 3 - International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
She noted that ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities should be based on the principles of respect for their dignity, opportunity for development, participation in public life on an equal basis with others, independence in decision-making and ensuring accessibility of the environment.
"The competent state bodies should be guided by the understanding that ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities is a constitutional obligation of the state that has no alternative," Manasyan emphasized.
It should be noted that December 3 is annually celebrated around the world as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It was established in 1992 by the UN General Assembly.
