One dead after tourist vehicle crashes on frozen Lake Baikal
A tragic accident occurred on the ice of Lake Baikal near Olkhon Island, where a vehicle carrying tourists overturned after the driver lost control and struck a crack in the ice.
According to Russia’s Investigative Committee, ten tourists were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. A 75-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
In response, the Ekhirit-Bulagatsky Interdistrict Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Irkutsk Region has opened a criminal case. The investigation is being conducted under a statute addressing the provision of services that fail to meet safety standards and result in death through negligence.
Authorities are currently working to establish the full circumstances and causes of the accident.
