Opposition “Armenia” bloc to take parliamentary seats
The opposition “Armenia” bloc, led by former President Robert Kocharyan, has announced that it will accept its parliamentary mandates and take part in the newly elected legislature, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media outlets.
“Being aware of its responsibility to the homeland and voters, the ‘Armenia’ bloc will delegate an ideological and unwavering political team to parliament, which, on the front line of political resistance, is ready to assume its share of responsibility,” the bloc said.
At the same time, the bloc argued that the Constitutional Court’s decision to uphold the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections does not rectify alleged pre-election violations and does not resolve concerns over the legitimacy of the emerging government.
According to the official results, the ruling Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received 49.7456% of the vote. The “Strong Armenia” bloc led by businessman Samvel Karapetyan secured 23.2710%, while the “Armenia” bloc led by Robert Kocharyan received 9.9231%.
