Opposition politician released after seven months in Georgian prison
Another opposition politician has been released from prison in Georgia after serving seven months behind bars.
Givi Targamadze was detained for failing to appear before a parliamentary investigative commission, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Seven other opposition figures received similar sentences.
Earlier, party leaders Giorgi Vashadze of Strategy Agmashenebeli and Zurab Japaridze of the Coalition for Change were released. The founders of the Lelo party were pardoned in September by President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
However, the leaders of the New Georgia party, Nika Gvaramia and Nika Melia, remain in custody.
All of these opposition figures face ongoing criminal investigations, accused of calling for the overthrow of the government and assisting foreign forces in hostile activities.
