Opposition protesting over Armenian passports of Karabakh Armenians
The Armenian parliamentary opposition is protesting over the Armenian passports of Karabakh Armenians, which, as it turned out, are "travel passports" and not "citizenship certificates".
Armenia faction MP Gegham Manukyan noted that the authorities cannot answer an elementary question: when Armenian citizens will finally be issued biometric passports, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
But at the same time, the relevant officials do not come off the screens, convincing Armenian citizens that the blue passports issued to Karabakh Armenians-settlers from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan are not a certificate of citizenship, and therefore Karabakh Armenians cannot be appointed to various state positions, having only this passport.
"But at the same time, Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, born in Martuni (Khojavand - ed.), absolutely has such a passport, and Edward Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, born in Hadrut, also has such a passport."
According to Marukyan, the Karabakh separatists who fought against Azerbaijan "did not know that they only had passports for travelling.
