Organising Committee holds fourth meeting ahead of COP29

The fourth meeting of the Organising Committee for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held, as reported by Azertac.

Samir Nuriyev, Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and Chairman of the Organising Committee, discussed the progress made in implementing the COP29 Action Plan as directed by President Ilham Aliyev. He emphasized Azerbaijan's exemplary leadership in the global fight against climate change under President Aliyev's guidance. Nuriyev highlighted that President Aliyev's statements and priorities, particularly regarding the challenges faced by developing small island states, have garnered international approval.

Nuriyev noted that the COP29 team has conducted numerous productive meetings and consultations with various negotiating groups to ensure transparency and inclusiveness. Azerbaijan aims to build global solidarity and consensus on the topics under discussion. As the Bonn Climate Change Conference began, Nuriyev stressed the need for increased efforts from state structures to ensure the success of COP29.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, President-designate of COP29, provided an update on the preparations for COP29 and the Bonn Climate Change Conference. He mentioned that Azerbaijan has planned several events related to the vision and initiatives of the COP29 presidency.

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov discussed the meetings and consultations held with different countries and negotiating groups, the COP29 Chairmanship agenda, and the status of the documents to be adopted at COP29.

Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company (SOCAR), spoke on SOCAR's green agenda and efforts to reduce emissions.

Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee on Family, Women, and Children Problems, highlighted the role of women in climate action.

Shahin Bagirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, presented on the regulation of customs issues during COP29 and the implementation of accelerated customs clearance procedures for delegations and their cargoes.

Fuad Nagiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency, discussed the hotels and accommodation facilities, as well as the recently introduced unified online booking platform.

Milli Majlis MP Konul Nurullayeva provided information about parliamentary work related to COP29, including the parliamentary conference to be held in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Gulshan Axundova, Chairwoman of the Public Association Woman, Development, Future, spoke about the contributions of non-governmental organizations to COP29.

The meeting concluded with instructions to continue work on the COP29 Action Plan and other relevant issues.
