OSCE ODIHR requests over 300 observers for Azerbaijan's snap parliamentary polls
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has made a formal request to participating States for over 300 observers to monitor the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.
This information comes from diplomatic sources, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to these sources, the observer mission is expected to include 30 long-term observers and 280 short-term observers.
Long-term observers are typically deployed well in advance of the election day to assess the electoral process and political environment, while short-term observers arrive closer to the election day to monitor voting, counting, and the overall conduct of the elections.
Earlier, the ODIHR confirmed that it had received an official invitation from Azerbaijani authorities to observe the elections and has begun the process of assembling a mission. This involves selecting and training observers who will be deployed across various regions of Azerbaijan.
The extraordinary parliamentary elections were scheduled following an order signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on June 28, dissolving the 6th convocation of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) and setting the election date for September 1, 2024.
