OSCE PA endorses initialing of peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA) has voiced strong support for the initialling of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In a statement posted on the Assembly’s official page on the social network X, OSCE PA President Pere Juan Pons Sampietro, Special Representative for the South Caucasus Luis Graça, and Secretary General Roberto Montella welcomed the signing of a joint declaration between the two countries in Washington, describing it as “a historic breakthrough toward lasting peace in the South Caucasus.”
This endorsement comes in the wake of a landmark event that took place during the night of August 8–9, when Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint seven-point declaration in Washington, reaffirming their mutual commitment to peace. The agreement was also signed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a parallel development, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialled a Draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations.
The two ministers also signed a joint letter addressed to the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, formally requesting the closure of the Minsk Process and its associated structures.
The complete text of the peace agreement is set to be made public on August 11.
