Over 1,000 Armenian trucks waiting at Upper Lars checkpoint
Customs attache at the Armenian embassy in the Russian Federation Vahan Hakobyan has said that about 1,200 Armenian trucks are on the road to the Upper Lars international checkpoint (multilateral vehicle checkpoint) on both the Georgian and Russian sides of the border.
The road from Georgia to Russia and in the opposite direction has been closed to all vehicles for the third day. Traffic is prohibited due to snow and ice on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway, Hakobyan told the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
“At the moment, about 200 trucks are on the Georgian territory, about 1,000 heavy trucks willing to move to Armenia are waiting on the Russian side,” the message says.
The Georgian Military Road is currently the only onshore route connecting Armenia with Russia. It is periodically closed due to bad weather.
