Over 1,000 homes flooded in Dagestan amid heavy rains
09 April 2026 16:55
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) said more than 1,000 homes, 1,140 plots of land, and 70 road sections remain flooded across eight settlements in Dagestan.
The ministry described the situation as still tense, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
EMERCOM chief Aleksander Kurenkov visited Dagestan on April 9 to assess the ongoing crisis.
Heavy rains that began on March 28 washed out riverbanks and damaged infrastructure, triggering the first wave of flooding.
A second wave hit on April 5, when a dam in the Derbent district broke.
Six people have died, and more than 15,000 were affected.
A state of emergency has been in effect in Dagestan since April 7.
