Over 1,400 Georgian citizens deported from EU in first half of 2026

01 August 2026 16:34

A total of 1,431 Georgian citizens were deported from European Union member states during the first half of 2026, according to data released by Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The ministry said those returned included 879 men, 199 women, and 273 minors, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.

Germany accounted for the largest number of deportations, with 723 Georgian nationals returned, followed by France (248) and Italy (81). Other deportations took place from several EU member states.

The ministry also reported that Georgian border authorities denied entry to 20 individuals who had been returned under the EU-Georgia readmission agreement. The individuals had been scheduled for return from Germany, France, Greece, Austria, Poland, Italy, and Romania.

Georgia has benefited from visa-free travel to the Schengen Area since March 2017, allowing its citizens to stay in participating countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, business, or private visits. The visa waiver does not grant the right to work or reside in EU member states.
