Over 600 Armenian trucks stuck at Russia–Georgia border
More than 600 Armenian trucks are waiting to cross the Russia–Georgia border at the Upper Lars checkpoint in North Ossetia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
According to the latest data, a total of 1,907 trucks from various countries are currently registered in the queue, 647 of which are Armenian.
The congestion has been caused by a heavy flow of Russian tourists travelling to Georgia and Armenia.
The Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russia–Georgia border is the only functioning land route connecting Armenia with Russia, carrying up to 70–80% of Armenia’s trade. The road frequently experiences disruptions due to harsh mountain weather, including snow, avalanches, and landslides, often forcing temporary closures or restrictions for heavy trucks.
Despite recent upgrades to expand capacity, long queues remain a recurring problem, with thousands of vehicles, including hundreds of Armenian trucks, often stuck for days.
