Overnight Israeli strikes claim more than 17 lives in Lebanon
On the night of March 17, Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon killed at least 17 people and injured dozens, with the Israeli military stating that the attacks targeted Hezbollah positions nationwide.
Two airstrikes in Beirut killed six people and wounded 24, CNN reports via Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Operations Centre.
Remains were recovered at the scene, and the identities of the deceased will be confirmed through DNA analysis.
In southern Lebanon, an airstrike on the city of Haboush in the Nabatieh district killed three people and injured one, with search efforts ongoing for eight missing individuals. A separate strike on the city of Jebchit killed four Syrian nationals.
In the Beqaa Valley, northeast Lebanon, strikes in Baalbek killed four people and wounded seven.
Lebanese authorities report that at least 850 people have died since the conflict began, and over 1 million have been displaced. On March 17, Israel stated that it targeted “rocket launching cells and launchers” of Hezbollah.
