Pakistan interested in Turkish-made anti-tank systems PHOTO

30 November 2023 14:07

Pakistan's strained relations with the West have led to further deepening of defence cooperation with Türkiye.

In this context, Pakistan is interested in supplying Turkish-made guided anti-tank systems. Joint production is also on the agenda, Caliber.Az reports, citing X page of Defence Turk.

As reported, it is also possible that Islamabad will participate in the development programme of the 5th generation KAAN fighter.

Reports published in August this year indicate that Pakistan is willing to participate in TUSAŞ's KAAN 5th generation fighter development programme. Around 200 Pakistani officials and engineers were reportedly involved in the development of the fighter programme even before the two governments decided to formalise the programme.

In 2018, a contract was signed with Türkiye's STM for medium modernisation of one of the Pakistan Navy's three Agosta 90B (Khalid class) diesel-electric submarines. Pakistan is also among the first buyers of Baykar's KEMANKEŞ cruise missile, equipped with an artificial intelligence-enabled autopilot system. Pakistan's dependence on Türkiye to maintain and modernise its weapons systems has increased over the past few years due to strained relations with the West.

UMTAS

The long-range anti-tank missile system (UMTAS) is a high-precision anti-tank missile system designed primarily for use on attack helicopters. The missile can operate day/night and in all weather conditions due to its infrared imaging homing head. Thanks to the radio frequency data link between the launcher - the missile can acquire a target before or after firing, and has "shot-forget" or "refresh fire" flight modes that allow target/spot selection. Precise guidance and control capabilities and an armour-piercing tandem warhead make the UMTAS missile an effective weapon system against armoured targets.

L-UMTAS

Long-range laser-guided anti-tank missile system [L-UMTAS] This is a precision-guided anti-tank missile system designed primarily for use from attack helicopters. The laser-guided capability and armour-piercing tandem warhead make the L-UMTAS an effective weapon system against stationary and moving targets. The missile can engage the target before or after firing.

OMTAS

OMTAS is a medium-range anti-tank system effective against armoured vehicles on the battlefield. The missile can operate day/night and in all weather conditions thanks to its infrared-imaging homing head. The radio frequency data link between the launcher and the missile provides the user with flexible operational options. The missile can acquire a target before or after firing and has "shot-forget" or "shot-refresh" flight modes that allow for target/point of impact selection. Precise guidance and control capabilities and an armour-piercing tandem warhead make the OMTAS missile an effective weapon system against armoured targets.

KARAOK

The KARAOK short-range anti-tank weapon is a man-portable missile system that can operate day and night thanks to its infrared thermal imaging head.
