Pakistan’s president vows “crushing response” to future aggression
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on May 13 condemned attacks by India, stating that recent cross-border strikes had further united the Pakistani people and military in the face of escalating tensions.
In an official statement, President Zardari paid tribute to members of the Pakistan Army and Air Force who were killed in the recent hostilities, Caliber.Az reports citing Pakistan’s media.
“We are proud of the sacrifices of our martyrs. Our brave forces have successfully defended the nation and the country’s integrity. Through Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, our forces shattered the enemy’s arrogance,” the president noted.
Zardari added that Pakistan’s armed forces remained fully prepared to respond to any future aggression, vowing a “crushing response” to any violation of national sovereignty.
He also expressed sorrow over the loss of civilian lives, including women and children, and extended condolences to the families of those killed. He called for swift recovery for the injured and emphasised national unity in the face of external threats.
A ceasefire was reached between the two countries following mediation by US President Donald Trump, with both sides agreeing to halt hostilities immediately. The Pakistani military said it had not requested the ceasefire but accepted it in the interest of regional stability.
The announcement followed initial talks between Indian and Pakistani Directors General of Military Operations via a military hotline, signalling a potential de-escalation.
