Part of Armenia's population to be replaced by other nations World Population Prospects forecast
According to the World Population Prospects database, only two million people will live in Armenia in 2100.
It is expected that Armenia's population will either remain mono-ethnic and decrease over the years or part of the population will be replaced by other nations (Russians, Indians), Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
According to the information, there is a serious demographic problem in Armenia at present. There is also a significant problem of labour force reduction. At the moment 53 per cent of the population, i.e. about 1.5 million people, belong to the age group of 20-59 years old. It is predicted that in 2050 48 per cent or 1.3 million people and in 2100 44 per cent or 0.5 million people will be in the working age group.
In addition, there is a clear imbalance between the number of men and women in Armenia. The total number of women currently exceeds the number of men by about 12 per cent, and this imbalance will continue for many years to come. Armenia also has a problem of selective abortion.
