Pashinyan: "Confrontational rhetoric" in Armenia clouding Azerbaijan normalisation

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has acknowledged that “confrontational rhetoric” is being used in Armenia, fuelling “pessimistic sentiments” over the normalisation process with Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Pashinyan said such statements were sometimes made at official level, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

He also addressed the unblocking of regional communications, saying this should include unhindered communication between Azerbaijan’s main territory and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Armenia.

Pashinyan said he expected Türkiye to open a railway connection with Armenia as part of efforts to restore regional links.

He also described relations between Armenia and Russia as being “in a phase of transformation”.

“Now that we have established peace with Azerbaijan, Armenian-Russian relations will naturally change,” the Armenian prime minister said.
