Pashinyan: Kazakhstan eyes role in TRIPP project

09 April 2026 13:36

Kazakhstan has been actively signalling its interest in Armenia’s TRIPP transport initiative since a summit in Washington in August, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, highlighting growing regional engagement around new international transit routes.

Speaking to Armenian media, Pashinyan said Kazakhstan’s involvement reflects its role as a major player in global logistics, particularly in freight flows between China and Central Asia, Caliber.Az reports.

He noted that Astana is seeking to better understand the transport opportunities that could emerge from the project.

Kazakhstan “does not conceal its interest,” Pashinyan said, adding that discussions have taken place during his own visits and in bilateral contacts.

He emphasised that Kazakhstan is not the only country exploring potential participation, describing the process as open and transparent, with multiple international partners engaged.

“The Kazakh partners are trying to more concretely assess what transport capabilities are being opened and what opportunities may arise for them,” he said.

Pashinyan added that discussions around railway infrastructure — including the South Caucasus Railways network — are being conducted publicly and may feature in future talks. However, he stressed that no negotiations are taking place behind the back of Russia.

“There are no discussions taking place behind Russia’s back,” he said, underlining that the process remains transparent with all relevant partners.
