Armenia backs final text of peace accord, suggests closure of Minsk Group

29 April 2025 09:19

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking during an official visit to Estonia, expressed his government’s readiness to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan and proposed that a joint declaration be signed to formally dissolve the structures of the OSCE Minsk Group.

At a press conference held on April 28 in Tallinn, Pashinyan noted that the Republic of Armenia remains committed to achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus and is prepared to take significant steps toward that goal, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

"Today, during my conversation with Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, and in a broader format, we discussed recent geopolitical and regional developments. In this context, I would like to once again emphasise that the Republic of Armenia maintains a firm stance to achieve lasting peace in our region. We are determined to take the necessary steps along this path," he stated.

Pashinyan also thanked Estonia for supporting the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the recent progress on the final wording of a peace agreement.

"I confirmed my readiness to sign the already agreed-upon text, also noting that I consider it possible to sign a joint statement with Azerbaijan on the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group structures simultaneously with the peace agreement," he said.
